DSL Speedtest

And this is how it works

  • Close all programs and keep them closed until the speed test is done. This is the only way to obtain accurate measurement results.
  • Select your provider and your connection speed in the menu. If you are not sure about this, check your DSL contract or monthly bill.

We have been reported that when using security software (e.g. Avira, GData, ZoneAlarm and others) too high speeds can be measured. These programs can influence the measurement. If you are using this software or a similar one, you should not only deactivate it for the duration of the test, but switch it off completely. But please switch it on again after the test!

Measurement of internet speed

In the DSL speed test, a series of test data is downloaded from a server (measurement of the download speed) and uploaded to a server (measurement of the upload speed). In addition, the time is measured until all test data has been successfully sent or downloaded. The data transfer rate of your internet connection is then calculated from these values. The speed test can be used for most types of connection, especially for:

  • Gigabit tariffs with an Internet connection of up to 1 GBit / s
  • DSL tariffs up to with data transmission rates of up to 500 Mbit / s
  • V-DSL (VDSL2) tariffs with up to 100 Mbit / s
  • DSL-Light tariffs with a data transmission rate of 384 - 768 Kbit / s
  • Many cable internet tariffs with speeds of up to 1000 Mbit / s
  • Mobile internet connections such as 5G, LTE (4G), UMTS / HSPA (3G) and GPRS / EDGE (2G)

The speed test is completely free of charge for you.

The evaluation of the speed test

The bandwidth of your Internet connection can never be determined 100% precisely because too many other factors influence the evaluation. These factors include, for example, the load on the measuring server and your current network load. You should not visit other websites or download files during the test! You should therefore close all background programs such as e-mail or other web browsers in order to avoid disruptions during the measurement. You can see the load on our server at the end of the speed test.

*) The speeds marked with an asterisk are no longer part of the current offer of the selected provider (status: 05/2021). However, since there are still existing contracts that use these "old" speeds, they are included in the list and you can select them if you have such a contract with the provider. If a speed or even a provider is missing from the list, we look forward to hearing from you.
