Reporter Curdin Fliri grew up in Graubünden, and hunting is normal for him. As normal as it is for city dwellers to buy a piece of meat in the supermarket. He wants to show the hunt as it really is. He goes on stalking with Domenic Jäger.

Even if Domenic Jäger has been hunting in Graubünden for 36 years, this year he is facing a very special challenge. He gets the unique opportunity to hunt a capital ibex. If he is successful, that would be his highlight as a hunter. But in order to achieve this, everything has to fit together.

Emerge into another world

Every morning, when we leave the village behind us and use the chairlift to pierce the blanket of fog, I get the feeling that we are about to appear. Emerge into another world. Far from civilization, we move through stone and scree, try to merge with nature in order to approach the kings of the Alps unnoticed.

It's a mixture of awe and respect that envelops me. Be it towards the majestic animals in whose habitat we move, as well as towards the hunter who tries to achieve his goal with such devotion. He has the unique opportunity to crown himself by killing a capricorn.

Do not question, but experience.

My goal has never been to question why someone even does something like this. Born and raised in Graubünden, hunting is as normal for me as it is for a city dweller to be able to buy a juicy piece of meat in the supermarket at any time.

The hunt and what it really is

My focus was to show the chase from the side as it is in reality. In this case Domenic Jäger's ibex hunt. The focus is not on the desire to kill, but on showing that it is much more than just killing an animal. It is the passion for nature, the confrontation with various hurdles that come up to you. The pursuit of the perfect shot.

The viewer should experience how difficult it is to stalk through rough terrain in order to get close to an ibex. How intensely one has to observe the animals first in order to determine which specimen one is allowed to shoot. And what's going on in the head of a hunter just before shooting. In short, in this film the viewer becomes a hunting companion.
