Training at Hogwarts

Cedric was born between September 1 and October 31, 1977 to Mr. and Mrs. Diggory and grew up near Ottery St. Catchpole. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on September 1, 1989 for the first time. He was sorted into the Hufflepuff house and distinguished himself as an intelligent and sporty student, in his fifth year he became a prefect and captain and seeker of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team.

In the 1993/1994 school year, Cedric led his team in the first game of the season against Gryffindor's. This game was supposed to be between Gryffindor and Slytherin, but Draco Malfoy avoided the risk of playing in these stormy conditions by claiming that his arm was still injured from the attack by Hagrid's Hippogriff Silbeak. During the game, Cedric and Harry Potter fought over the Snitch. But Harry surprised and overwhelmed the presence of the Dementors present and he fell off his broom. Cedric caught the Golden Snitch, but the moment he heard what had happened to Harry, he offered to repeat the game. Gryffindor captain Oliver Wood declined the offer, being aware that Cedric had won the game fairly and decently. In 1994, Cedric was one of the first to congratulate Harry on his new Firebolt, which replaced his old Nimbus 2000 destroyed by the Whomping Willow.

In the summer of 1994 Cedric attended the Quidditch World Cup with his father, he made the way there with the Weasleys, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, as the Weasleys lived near the burrow and Harry and Hermione were visiting there at the time.

Sixth grade

Cedric began his sixth year in September 1994, the same year the Triwizard Tournament was revived. At the appropriate age of at least 17, Cedric threw his name into the Goblet of Fire to become Hogwarts' Champion. On October 31st, the goblet chose the champions to represent their school: Fleur Delacour for Beauxbatons, Viktor Krum for Durmstrang and Cedric himself for Hogwarts. Cedric followed the other champions into a small room behind the Great Hall and was surprised that the Goblet of Fire had announced a fourth name after leaving the hall - Harry Potter. Despite Harry's assurances that he hadn't dropped his name, Cedric wasn't entirely convinced of it.

Triwizard tournament

In the weeks following the selection, Cedric was supported by the majority of the school, including the Slytherins. It was during this period that enchanted pins, on which Support CEDRIC DIGGORY - the REAL Hogwarts Champion! was to be read, then the lettering changed to POTTER STINKSwhen Harry was around. Cedric, however, was not enthusiastic about these badges and asked his friends not to wear them.

As part of the tournament, Cedric participated in the wands calibration performed by Garrick Ollivander, who described his wand as "comfortably bouncy," and posed for photos in the Daily Prophet. However, his selection as a participant in the tournament was completely overshadowed by Rita Skeeter's article, which dealt only with Harry. A situation that particularly displeased Cedric's father.

First task

In the months leading up to the first task, Cedric was informed by Harry that the first task was to get past a dragon. Cedric was the only champion who didn't know this, and Harry thought it was only fair for everyone to start the tournament on equal terms. On November 24th, the champions gathered and randomly pulled a miniature kite with a starting number. Cedric pulled a Swedish Schnäuzler in combination with the number one and was the first to move into the arena to steal the same from the female dragon guarding a golden egg. Face to face with the dragon, Cedric turned a stone into a Labrador and headed for the ice. Shortly after reaching it and taking himself, however, the dragon lost interest in the dog and preferred to attack Cedric. The dragon burned half of Cedric's face and it was difficult for him to get to safety. He was cared for by Madam Pomfrey, who applied an orange paste to heal wounds on his face.

Christmas ball and second task

Like all champions, Cedric had to find the hidden clue in the golden egg in order to prepare for the second task. He was assisted by Barty Crouch Jr., disguised as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, who advised him to put the egg in the water and then listen to him underneath. He chose the prefect's bathroom on the fifth floor and opened the egg in the water. He heard the hint, but it took him some time to figure out that it was referring to the aquatic people in the lake.

At Christmas, Cedric was required to attend the Christmas Ball, a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament. He asked Cho Chang if she would go to the ball with him and she said yes. At the end of the ball, Cedric found Harry and told him to put the egg in the bathroom just like himself. To compensate for the warning about the dragons, he gave Harry the password for the prefects' bathroom so that he could decipher the clue there.

The second task took place on February 24th. Having deciphered the riddle of the golden egg, Cedric knew that he had to breathe underwater for at least an hour and that something had to be found at the bottom of the lake that had been stolen from him. He successfully used the bubble spell and reached the Aquarian Village shortly after Harry. He realized that what he would "most sorely miss" was Cho and saved her. He warned Harry, who was worried about the other prisoners, that he had to hurry and swam to the surface of the water. Cedric arrived one minute outside of the hourly time limit and got 47 points. After two tasks, he was in first place along with Harry.

Third task

Shortly before the third task began, Cedric and the other champions joined Ludo Bagman to examine the maze the tournament officials were growing on the Quidditch pitch. Like Harry, Cedric is not very happy that the Quidditch pitch is being used for this, but Bagman assured them that the pitch will be returned to its original state after the tournament is over.

On June 24th, Cedric's parents came to Hogwarts as the champions' families were invited to watch the Third Task. During the meeting, his father confronted Harry about the press coverage carried out at his son's expense. Cedric tried to calm him down and explained that it wasn't Harry's fault and apologized to his opponent.

Since Harry and Cedric were both in first place, they entered the maze together at the same time. They parted in hopes of reaching the Triwizard Cup in the center of the maze. Shortly thereafter, Cedric met one of Hagrid's bumpy toads and narrowly escaped after he had burned him. After the toad, Cedric met Viktor Krum, who at that moment was under the Imperius curse and attacked Cedric with the Cruciatus curse. He was rescued by Harry, who shocked Krum and shot red sparks into the air to mark Krum's position so the Durmstrang Champion could be dragged out of the maze. Although united for a short time, Cedric and Harry parted again in search of the trophy.

Cedric recognized the trophy and ran towards it as fast as he could. An acromantula appeared on the path from his left and attacked him. His wand was knocked out of his hand, but the simultaneous arrival of Harry confused the spider and that gave Cedric enough time to get his wand back. However, the giant spider was too powerful to be defeated by a single spell, so Harry and Cedric shocked it at the same time. While they recovered, they found they were right next to the Triwizard Cup. Since Harry had saved him in the maze twice, Cedric asked him to take the trophy. They argued over who should take it and win the tournament. Both argued that the other had helped them. Finally Harry suggested that they both take the trophy for a Hogwarts victory. Visibly delighted, Cedric helped the injured Harry towards the cup so they could both hold it. Her touch activated the cup, which had previously been turned into a portkey, and carried both of them to Little Hangleton Cemetery.

Little Hangleton Cemetery and Death

The portkey sent both Harry and Cedric to a cemetery. Shortly after their arrival, Peter Pettigrew emerged from the darkness, carrying a small figure of Lord Voldemort with him. Voldemort ordered Pettigrew "Kill the superfluous!" and he used Voldemort's own wand to murder Cedric with the killing curse.

Cedric, though dead, played a role in subsequent events that night. After Voldemort was reborn, Voldemort and Harry dueled until the point where their wands - which shared a core of the same phoenix - combined and the Curseumkeh effect, also known as the Priori Incantatem, occurred. Voldemort's wand began to reveal the most recently performed spells in reverse order. Cedric's shadow appeared from his staff, as did the shadows of Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins, and James and Lily Potter. Cedric's "Echo" asked Harry to take his body to his parents' house while he helped the others. Harry agreed and when the connection broke, the shadows stormed towards Voldemort and shielded Harry from him. Harry used the resulting unrest to run to Cedric's body and then conjure up the trophy that would bring them both back to Hogwarts.

Cedric's body has returned to the Hogwarts grounds and Harry clung to it, refusing to let go until Albus Dumbledore could pull it away. The crowd gathered for the Third Task burst into screams when they realized what had happened. Cedric's parents were desperate and saddened by the fate that had happened to their son (although his mother tried to console herself by saying that Cedric must not have suffered before he died, as Cedric's victory after winning the tournament made him happy must before he dies).

Cedric's death was felt throughout the school on June 26th
