How to fix Smartimage on Philips monitor

The Philips 231P SmartImage overlay cannot be removed

I have a Philips Brilliance 231PQPYK IPS LED monitor connected to my desktop. It has worked fine for the past 2.5 years, but suddenly yesterday there was this weird SmartImage overlay, "SmartImage On" on one side of the screen and "SmartImage Off" on the other with a vertical line going back and forth moved back across the screen. Here is a photo of it: The problem is, I can't find a way to turn this overlay off as none of the monitor's controls are responding! In fact, I can't turn off the monitor without unplugging it. (This monitor is controlled via touch controls in the lower right corner of the bezel, as you can see in the photo.)

I tried the following:

  1. Change the current DVI connection to VGA - no effect.

  2. The power cord was unplugged overnight, which may reset the monitor, but it still didn't help.

  3. Plug in power and nothing else so that "Check Connection" is displayed on the screen. At this point, the only OSD control I can invoke is the language selector. None of the other controls work. However, the SmartImage overlay does not appear.

This SmartImage overlay will appear once the computer is turned on and the BIOS screen is displayed. So I don't think this is an OS issue.

How can I fix this? Many Thanks.

Found out!! After a few inquiries and a phone call, it seems that the SmartImage button on the underside of the front panel is sufficient eight Hold for seconds to turn the overlay off. This isn't documented in the how-to, which is really annoying, but I'm glad it's fixed now!

The SmartImage button is the button in the "Row of Buttons". You should find this and press for more than 10 seconds.

(If you can't find it, watch the video to find SmartImage on the monitor.)
